The Foreigner

Adeline Rook lives alone. For as long as she can remember, she has toiled in the endless library called Babel, a place outside of known time, where a chained monster howls in the lowest level and sinister things lurk just beyond the flickering lights. Until she escapes.

Adeline finds herself in a new world, a great and ancient city on the cusp of violent upheaval. There she must tread the halls of the intrigue-riddled Imperial Citadel, while the streets team with revolutionaries and assassins. As she struggles to stay just ahead of the shifting tides of power, she begins to realize that, across the gulfs of space and time, Babel wants her back.

Or, if you might think of it as the really, really dark version of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Or a vaguely alt- modern history, girly rendition of I, Claudius, if you prefer.
